Beyond Patronage is a symposium that brings together architects, designers and scholars to explore notions of architectural “patronage” today and their implications in design, research, and practice. Questions we address are: How are architectural practices today shifting away from traditional structures of patronage that have typically characterized the profession, field, and discipline? How have new notions of power and empowerment shaped relationships between practitioners and other agencies, initiating new priorities, design strategies, and practice models?

This day-long symposium will be held at the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning on October 17th, 2012.
